Celebration Key Guide: What's Included and How to Spend the Day

Celebration Key is Carnival Corporation's purpose-built destination on Grand Bahama. It combines long beach areas, large freshwater lagoons, family play, shopping and premium add-ons. The basic visit includes enough for a satisfying day, but the dining rules differ from a traditional private-island barbecue and onboard drink packages do not simply follow you ashore.

The smartest approach is to choose a home base—family-focused Starfish Lagoon, livelier Calypso Lagoon, a beach, or a paid premium space—then add only one or two activities.

Dock and Arrival Logistics

Ships dock at Celebration Key's dedicated pier. Carnival describes the walk to Paradise Plaza as about ten minutes along a shaded pier. That estimate begins after you leave the ship and does not include elevators, gangway queues or the walk from your cabin.

Complimentary trams run a continuous hop-on, hop-off loop within the destination. Seats are first-come, and walking can be faster for guests who are able. Most destination areas are only a few shaded minutes apart, but heat, wet surfaces and crowds make the return take longer than the map suggests.

What Is Typically Included

General admission, the main beaches and lagoons, lounge chairs, umbrellas, freshwater showers, complimentary life vests around the lagoons, family splash areas and entertainment are included. Bring a beach towel from the ship. Starfish Lagoon and Starfish Beach are the family-centered zone; Calypso Lagoon and Beach have a more social atmosphere. Lokono Cove features Bahamian shopping and vendors, while Paradise Plaza is the arrival hub.

Food uses Carnival's Island Eats program. Each guest currently receives one complimentary meal at participating walk-up venues or a discount on one entrée at a full-service restaurant. The program is not unlimited dining, and Pearl Cove Beach Club is excluded. A child's full-service meal may be included under specific conditions if the child's Island Eats entitlement has not already been redeemed. Scan or present the required ship credential and confirm the venue participates before ordering.

What Usually Costs Extra

Alcohol, specialty beverages and additional food beyond the Island Eats entitlement generally cost extra. Carnival's Cheers! package and other onboard beverage packages do not extend to Celebration Key. Open-bar products and all-inclusive versions of Pearl Cove apply only when specifically purchased and only under their stated terms.

Other paid options include Pearl Cove Beach Club for guests 18 and older, cabanas, villas and daybeds, water-equipment rentals, shore excursions and access to the Suncastle's racing waterslides. Slide access is not automatically included with a daybed, and packages vary. Check the exact reservation description rather than assuming one premium product unlocks another.

A Realistic Four-Hour Plan

With four usable hours, do not book competing reservations. Families can go directly to Starfish Lagoon, use the splash area and beach, redeem Island Eats nearby and return. Adults or groups without children can base at Calypso Lagoon or one beach, have lunch and browse Lokono Cove on the way back.

If Pearl Cove or a cabana is the priority, treat it as the entire day. The walk from the ship and the return consume part of a short call, so premium access is valuable only if you actually stay there.

A Realistic Six-Hour Plan

Six hours gives a family time for Starfish Lagoon, a reserved slide session or rental, and lunch without hurrying. Adults can split the day between Calypso Beach and Lagoon or spend most of it in Pearl Cove. Shoppers should visit Lokono Cove after swimming so purchases do not sit unattended near the water.

Redeem Island Eats at a time that fits the venue's operating window. Do not wait until the final minutes of service, especially if dietary needs require a conversation with staff.

A Realistic Eight-Hour Plan

A long call allows two destination zones and an unhurried meal. Start at the beach before peak sun, move to a lagoon and finish near Paradise Plaza. A family might combine Starfish Lagoon with a prebooked water activity; adults might spend the morning in a general area and the afternoon in a premium club only if the pass permits and the cost makes sense.

Off-site Grand Bahama excursions are more reasonable on a long call, but they use time you could spend at the destination. Choose one only when the activity—such as a nature, cultural or off-site beach experience—is more important than Celebration Key itself.

Should You Buy a Premium Upgrade?

Pearl Cove is a good fit for adults seeking a controlled, quieter premium area and willing to pay for upgraded facilities. A cabana or villa makes sense for a multigenerational group that values shade, seating and a meeting point. A daybed is a comfort purchase, not an all-access pass. Slides and water rentals are best for guests who will use them repeatedly or consider them the day's highlight.

Skip upgrades when your group mainly wants a pool, beach, chair, umbrella and lunch. Those core elements are already part of the visit. Prices and inventory are sailing-specific; compare the full party cost in the cruise planner and read age, capacity and cancellation rules before booking.

Accessibility, Sensory Needs and Families

Accessible trams circulate through the destination, and complimentary beach wheelchairs are available first-come. Scooters may be brought ashore, but Carnival says there are no designated scooter-charging stations. Travelers should begin with a full charge and discuss pier assistance with Guest Access before sailing.

Celebration Key is KultureCity Sensory Inclusive certified. Sensory bags are available for complimentary checkout at Guest Services on a first-come basis. Families using swim diapers should review the current water-area restrictions: non-toilet-trained children may use designated splash and shallow areas under the posted rules, not every pool.

Lifeguards are stationed at pools and select beach areas, but they do not replace adult supervision. Check height and other rules for slides and activities before promising a child an attraction.

Independent Versus Ship Excursions

Celebration Key's reserved spaces and activities are sold through the cruise line, so there is no meaningful independent alternative for an on-site day pass. For an excursion beyond the destination, a ship-sponsored tour reduces timing risk and manages the controlled-port meeting process. An independent Grand Bahama operator may offer a different experience, but confirm that pickup is permitted, identify the exact meeting point outside any secure boundary and leave a large return cushion.

Return-to-Ship Risk

Because the ship is at a dedicated pier, return risk is lower than at a tender port—but it is not zero. Trams can fill, tropical weather can slow movement, and the pier walk still stands between Paradise Plaza and the gangway. Use ship time, leave distant areas well before all aboard and be prepared to walk if tram demand spikes.

Guests on off-site excursions need a much larger margin. Carnival coordinates its own tours under the applicable terms; the ship has no obligation to wait for an independently delayed vehicle.
